Maline Yim

After Lim Sokchanlina Maline Yim is the 2nd resident from Cambodia to stay in Johannesburg. South African artists Minnette Vari and Kai Lossgott are the first two South African artists to have visited Phnom Penh in this new exciting South South Dialogue artist exchange programme.
A cooperation of the Sylt Foundation and the SA Sa Arts project in Phnom Penh.

Yim Maline’s practice is both a processing of memories specific to her childhood growing up amidst civil war in Cambodia, and a means to consider the complex effects of this period on the natural environment and individual and societal structures of today.  Yim was born in 1982 in Battambang, and is a graduate of Phare Ponleu Selpak art school (1995-2003) and received a BFA, Fine Art, École Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Caen la Mer, France (2010). Yim’s solo exhibitions include Having a Hole or Empty Space Inside at SA SA BASSAC (2015), and Silk Threads at Insider Gallery, InterContinental Hotel, Phnom Penh (2012). Her group exhibitions include And that which was always known, Yavuz Gallery, Singapore (2015) and Eight Women, French Institute, Phnom Penh (2011). In 2015, she was a resident at Vermont Studio Center, VT, USA and in 2013, she was a resident at Bose Pacia Transparent Studio, NYC with Season of Cambodia’s IN RESIDENCE program.
